I occasionally go to Huddersfield to see what is going on.
Today we will be looking at the Oxygrains Old Bridge.
Here it is on a map:
So yeah, it is an old bridge in the middle of the pennines. Its approximately 400 years old.
So, what’s the deal with this bridge? Well, its an ancient packhorse bridge that crosses the oxygrains clough. Merchants would travel across this bridge to trade cloth between Yorkshire and Lancashire. The ancient paths are now lost, because of the new road system, but the bridge still remains.
I team up with wessyman, and we both pop down and take a look.
Oxygrains Old Bridge is very old and fairly important, yet it has not been forgotten. Wessyman points out that the bridge has been repointed and indeed he is right. Calderdale council fixed it up a few years go to stop the bridge from dropping in bits. They even put soil on top of it to give it some extra protection.
It was a nice morning
Cheers
