Wharram Percy – Deserted Medieval Village, Near Malton, North Yorkshire

Wharram Percy is a deserted medieval village on the border of North Yorkshire. It has been highly excavated and examined with some remains still visible. Ordnance Survey grid reference SE 856 645.

Here are some pictures.

Path down to the deserted village
The ruins of St Martin’s Church. Also some outlines of medieval buildings. A bit dark, sorry.

Only the church is remaining; it has however seen many stages of renovation over hundreds of years.

This farm cottage is a more recent addition. Built in the 1700s.
This cottage is of course uninhabited. Round the back there are more examples of excavated medieval buildings.

Inside the ruins of the church
This old tablet was inside the church. I will respectfully just leave this here

Worth a look, nice walks in the area. Wharram Percy village originated in about the 10th century. It is still under ongoing investigation.
